Really enjoyed the Spider Roll. The spicy edamame is not for the front of heart, but it is superb if you are a fan of all things spicy. So glad I found this place!! They also have the usual selection of regular rolls as well as sushi and sashimi. The atmosphere caters to a young and vibrant crowd. It's a small place, but we were driving awhile since everywhere was full.
Service was great, the server was very attentive and the manger went to greet us and ask about or experience there. We also had the seaweed salad and house salad. At our server's suggestion, we tried the New Year's roll and we were very pleasantly surprised! I'd go back but I'd like to try other places in the area first. In the end if there was one thing that keeps me from giving a 5 star review is that our server was pretty slow. The only drawback was this horrible woman that was sitting next to us with her family that made a scene about an allergy she supposedly had.
Both were reasonably priced and they enjoyed. Why go to get sushi if vinegar and rice makes you feel crappy, I ask? This was our first time at Hook's. Most Thai restaurants have condiments prepared, these looked like they grabbed two bowls, making fish sauce had to pour. My fiance and I came for dinner on a Wednesday evening. What a great deal for a night out. Saw it had good reviews so figured we would check it out. I've been here a half dozen times and the manager gentleman always stops by to make sure everything is okay at some point during the meal.
The only drawback was this horrible woman that was sitting next to us with her family that made a scene about an allergy she supposedly had. We actually struggled to finish it! I frequent this restaurant for to go orders so it's really disappointing that they have someone like this picking up their phones. The salad dressing was light and fresh with a heavy citrus flavor, not the typical darker soy- sesame based ginger; good just surprisingly different. No room for eight of us. Of course I used Yelp in my hunt, but avoided downtown since I'm still on crutches. Inside, the restaurant is bright and inviting. It was inexpensive which was nice but I probably wouldn't come again if I wanted good sushi.
I've tried about a dozen sushi and Thai places in the Tampa Bay area so far and I'm happy to say, Hooks is my favorite. Be aware: they serve a different ginger dressing than on most house salads. Hook himself was a infamous, opening directly across M. I think the Thai Food in their name is a little misleading. I had pad Thai which was so tasty and a good price!! They were tasty and I didn't taste the broccoli so don't let that throw you off.
It's casual but cool, a great mix. Madd had the Florida Roll, which I also thought was very good. Nice balance of rice and inner ingredients on both rolls. She got the Thai basil chicken which was awesome and I got the bulgogi. Maybe if I came with others I'd try one of their other dishes. I came here with coworkers to celebrate a teammate's birthday.
In under fifteen minutes that had a table ready! Both of us saw multiple items we wanted but finally we decided. We ordered a variety of specialty rolls along with pad Thai. Why go to get sushi if vinegar and rice makes you feel crappy, I ask? This was a random experience after drinking heavily at the Flamingo bar next-door and we decided to stumble in and try some cuisine. The entree came with a small bowl of either Egg Drop or Miso soup and a small salad with ginger dressing. He was great and quietly gave us his bill.
Needless to say that the food was delicious and the prices were good maybe a dollar or 2 less than other places that serves similar food. The fish was fresh and appetizing and they had a spicy seaweed salad that I had never had before. Create a to interact with other awesome members just like you and post a photo of your favorite vendor, lunch dish, local street art mural or whatever you find cool and worth sharing onto! It is delicious and I highly recommend that you try it! The service was great and the portion sizes are lovely and tasted authentic and not that fake fusion stuff that non-Asian people seem to love to come up with. Overall, it's a great find in St. Eh, I do wish you luck. For dinner, we shared a couple of sushi rolls and the japchae.
And the bus boy was super-quick to remove empty plates. I'd come back for their sushi anytime! They were satisfying but I could've ordered another. And after an inadvertent drive by, Maddie was all-in. Both were reasonably priced and they enjoyed. It came out super hot which I loved! The customer service was good. I chose the seafood egg-drop soup, which exceeded my expectations- it was absolutely delicious! The service was pretty good with drinks being refilled and plates cleared. Although the place was busy, we were greeted and seated immediately.
